No specific measurement issues apply to the variable Main Language Spoken at Home beyond the normal constraints affecting statistical collections, such as problems with confidentiality or standard errors which may not permit the collection or output of data for some of the categories at the lower levels of the classification. 54. The Australian Standard Classification of Languages (ASCL), Second Edition (ABS cat. no. 1267.0) was used to code language data in the 1996 and 2001 Censuses. Correspondence tables have been prepared to compare the two versions of the ASCL and also the ASCL (First Edition) with the 1991 Census.
