NAME OF COLLECTION

Working Time Arrangements

OVERVIEW

The Working Time Arrangements (WTA) survey was first conducted in November 2006 and most recently in November 2009. Prior to this the survey was known as the Working Arrangements Survey and was conducted for the first time in August 1993, then every three years: in August 1997, November 2000 and November 2003. Additional information was collected in the 2006 and 2009 WTA surveys to better measure data on job stability, job flexibility and scheduling of work.

The WTA survey collects information about the working arrangements of employees in their main job, such as shift work, extra hours or overtime, and start and finish times. It also presents information about the patterns of employees' work in all jobs. Data from this survey are used to examine the differing working arrangements of employees, including the flexibility of working arrangements and shift work. The scope of the survey is employees aged 15 years and over.

Data items collected from the WTA survey and Working Arrangements Survey contain some differences, however topics covered are capable of being cross classified with Data Items Relevant to Migrants and Ethnicity.

The WTA survey is conducted as part of the Monthly Population Survey, which comprises the Labour Force Survey and, in most months, a supplementary survey topic.
