Involvement in Organised Sport and Physical Activity
OVERVIEW
The 2010 survey of Involvement in Organised Sport and Physical Activity (IOSPA) was conducted throughout Australia as part of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Monthly Population Survey (MPS). IOSPA was first conducted in 1993, again in 1997, 2001, 2004, 2007 and most recently in April 2010. The 2010 collection is the last iteration of this survey. IOSPA collects data on involvement in organised sport and physical activity for persons 15 years of age and older.
The object of the IOSPA survey is to obtain data about the population's paid and unpaid involvement in organised sport and physical activity in playing and non-playing roles. Principal users are the National Centre for Culture and Recreation Statistics (NCCRS) of the ABS, the Cultural Ministers Council Statistics Working Group and the Standing Committee on Recreation and Sport Research Group.
IOSPA collects data under the topics listed above as well as socio-demographic characteristics collected in the Monthly Population Survey. Data items contained within these topics are capable of being cross classified with Data Items Relevant to Migrants and Ethnicity.

Note: Country of birth is collected as a core data item in the Labour Force Survey. Although individual country of birth is collected, standard outputs for this data item are usually aggregated to one of the following formats:
