AUSTRALIAN BUREAU OF STATISTICS (ABS)
NAME OF COLLECTION
Net Overseas Migration Travellers Characteristics Database
OVERVIEW
The Net Overseas Migration (NOM) Travellers Characteristics Database is an analytical data set derived from international travellers who have contributed to the final NOM component of Estimated Resident Population. It records certain characteristics for any traveller who has contributed to NOM whether they are a NOM arrival or a NOM departure. The database provides for further analysis and research on international migration.
ABS statistics on NOM are calculated using administrative data collected and compiled by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). The main source of data on overseas migration is the incoming and outgoing passenger cards completed by all persons arriving in or departing from Australia. Data from passports and visa (entry permit) applications and approvals are also provided by DIAC’s Travel and Immigration Processing System (TRIPS).
