Population size

Series A projects the largest population for the Australian Capital Territory, increasing from 375,100 people at 30 June 2012 to 904,100 in 2061. Series B projects an increase to 740,900 people in 2061, while the smallest population of the three main series is projected in Series C (612,400).

Age/sex structure

The median age of the population of Australian Capital Territory is projected to increase from 34.5 years in 2012 to between 38.1 years and 41.4 years in 2061. The graph below presents the age structure for Australian Capital Territory in 2012 and 2061.

Births and Deaths

In 2011-12, there were 5,300 births and 1,700 deaths in the Australian Capital Territory, resulting in natural increase of 3,600 people. In all series, births will continue to exceed the number of deaths during the projection period, resulting in a natural increase. In Series A, natural increase will steadily rise, in Series B natural increase will slowly rise, while in Series C natural increase will decline, but remain positive over the projection period.
