FEATURE ARTICLE - AUSTRALIA'S RECENT TEMPORARY MIGRANTS

Using the most recent final data available from the ABS, the paper discusses the numbers of temporary visa holders arriving and departing Australia and their contribution to net overseas migration and therefore Australia's population counts. The paper also examines the main visa subclasses used by these migrants, their countries of birth, and the main reasons they reported for their travel.
The analysis is based on final data from the ABS' analytical dataset called the Travellers Characteristics Database.
