Location of offence

Victims of murders, attempted murders, sexual assaults, unlawful entry with intent and motor vehicle thefts were most likely to experience victimisation in residential locations.

Robbery victims were most likely to be victimised in a community location, most commonly on a street or footpath (43%). Victims of kidnapping/abduction were also most likely to experience the incident on a street or footpath (46%).

One third of all other thefts occurred in a retail location (33%) in 2011. This was followed by residential locations (30%) and community locations (25%) (Table 2.3).
