MENTAL AND BEHAVIOURAL DISORDERS (F00-F99)
In 2011, Mental and behavioural disorders (F00-F99) were identified as the underlying cause of 7,631 registered deaths, representing 5.2% of all registered deaths.
There were nearly twice as many female deaths (4,865 or 63.8%) due to mental and behavioural disorders than male deaths (2,766 or 36.2%) registered in 2011. The median age at death was higher for females, at 89.1 years, compared with 85.5 years for males.
Dementia (F01, F03) accounted for 6,877 deaths in 2011 of which 2,330 people were male and 4,547 were females. These deaths constitute 90.1% of mental and behavioural disorders in 2011, compared with 79.2% in 2002. The sex ratio of 51 males per 100 female deaths has increased from 49 males per 100 females in 2002. The median age at death for persons (88.5 years) who died of dementia was higher than the median age for mental and behavioural disorders (87.9 years) as a whole.
