OFFENDERS
For the 2007-08 reference period, police in New South Wales proceeded against 109,113 offenders. This equated to a rate of 1,800 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over in New South Wales.
There were more than three times as many male offenders (78% or 85,432 males) than female offenders (22% or 23,613 females). Males had an offender rate of 2,859 offenders per 100,000 males aged 10 years and over, compared to a rate of 768 female offenders per 100,000 females aged 10 years and over.
The median age of all female offenders was 21 years compared to 24 years for males.
As illustrated by the graph below, males had higher offender rates for all age groups compared to females. The age group with the highest offender rate for both sexes was the 15-19 year age group.
