REPEAT OFFENDERS

During 2007-08, the majority (78%) of all offenders were proceeded against by police on only one occasion. A further 12% were proceeded against by police on two separate occasions. Offenders proceeded against by police on five or more separate occasions during 2007-08 comprised 3% (1,402 offenders) of all offenders.

There were more male offenders than female offenders who were proceeded against more than once during the reference period (23% compared to 17%), with an average number of times proceeded against of 1.5 compared to 1.3 respectively.

Nearly 5% of males aged 10-14 years had been proceeded against 5 or more times during 2007-08, the highest proportion for any age group.
