INTERNET ACTIVITIES AT HOME

People who had accessed the internet at home were asked to indicate the activities they used the internet for.

In 2010-11, of the 13.3 million people who reported accessing the internet at home, the top three reported activities were: Emailing (91%); Research, news and general browsing (87%); and Paying bills online or online banking (64%).

Selected internet activities at home by age group

Persons in the 15-17 year age group were the most likely to use the internet for Social networking and online gaming. Persons from this age group were also the least likely to use the internet for Emailing. Paying bills online or online banking was most commonly performed by persons in the 25-34 year age group.
