REPEAT OFFENDERS

During 2007-08, the majority (71%) of all offenders were proceeded against by police on one occasion. A further 16% were proceeded against by police on two separate occasions. Offenders proceeded against by police on five or more separate occasions during 2007-08 comprised 4% (2,854 offenders) of all offenders.

There were more male offenders than female offenders who were proceeded against more than once during the reference period (30% compared to 25% respectively).

Male offenders aged 10-14 and 15-19 years were proceeded against on average 1.7 times per offender during the reference period, compared to 1.6 times for all offenders, the highest for any age group.
