Chapter 5: Education and Training
The 'Education and Training' chapter defines key terms and discusses the differences and connections between education and training. Various related concepts are differentiated, such as formal and non-formal education and training, and incidental learning. The introduction goes on to discuss recent changes in the areas of education and training and how this has affected measurement in these areas. The connection between education and training and wellbeing is discussed as are some key social issues relating to education and training. Several frameworks are delineated, including a learning needs framework, and an education and training activity model. Key measures are discussed (including measures of educational participation and attainment, field of education, literacy and transition to work), and the Australian Standard Classification of Education is summarised.
