HOSPITAL CHARACTERISTICS

Nearly half (47.3%) of all Acute and psychiatric hospitals had a dedicated day surgery unit, ranging from 37.9% in South Australia, to two thirds of hospitals in the three smallest states and territories . Around 30% of Acute and psychiatric hospitals had an oncology unit, ranging from 10.3% of South Australian hospitals to 40.7% of the hospitals in New South Wales. Acute and psychiatric hospitals in New South Wales were the least likely to have a labour ward (20.9%), while two thirds of the hospitals in the smallest states and territories had labour wards.
