REPEAT OFFENDERS

During 2007-08, the majority (74%) of all offenders were proceeded against by police on one occasion. A further 15% were proceeded against by police on two separate occasions. Offenders proceeded against by police on five or more separate occasions during 2007-08 comprised 4% (4,101 offenders) of all offenders.

There were more male offenders than female offenders who were proceeded against more than once during the reference period (28% compared to 22% respectively).

On average, male offenders aged 10-14 years were proceeded against 1.9 times per offender during the reference period, compared to 1.6 times for all offenders, which was the highest for any age group.
