INTRODUCTION

This is the twenty fourth Annual Report of the Australian Statistics Advisory Council, and is made in accordance with sub-section 24(2) of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Act 1975 which provides that: 'the Council shall, as soon as practicable after 30 June in each year, prepare and submit to the Minister, for presentation to the Parliament, a Report relating to matters connected with the operation of this Act'.

This Report of the Council operations during 1999-2000 is presented under each of the broad functions set out in the Act.
