Centenary Yearbook Australia 2001
The 2001 edition - first of the new millennium - of our popular Year Book Australia is available now.
Launched at Old Parliament House on January 25, by President of the Senate, Senator Margaret Reid, the Year Book Australia 2001 is a special volume marking the Centenary of Federation.
"...these glimpses of our nation-building past are fascinating and informative, and make the Year Book Australia 2001 a vital reference for Australians in all walks of life: decision-makers, the education sector, community organisations, journalists, researchers - all will benefit from having this highly readable source on all things Australian, today and during the past century, near to hand," Senator Reid said at the launch.
With nearly 1,100 pages of facts, figures, graphs and diagrams, the Year Book 2001 is a unique reference to both the Australia of today and to the way that Australia has grown and developed as a nation over the last century. As this edition is the ABS' contribution to Australia's centenary celebrations, it has a much stronger historical theme than is normally found in the Year Book. Most of the 30 chapters contain additional historical material, longer time series, commentary on the changes that have occurred over time, and a number of articles specially commissioned for this edition.
In all, 300 extra pages of information detail the ways that Australia has changed since the 1900s.
Some of the subjects covered in the 82nd edition include:
- Geography and climate
- Population
- Labour
- Income and welfare
- Housing
- Health
- Education and training
- Crime and justice
- Culture and recreation and much more
There is even more on the CD-ROM!
In addition to the full content of the printed Year Book Australia 2001, the CD-ROM version offers the complete content of the very first Year Book - the Official Year Book of the Commonwealth of Australia, 1901-1907 - as well as copies of the many articles and feature pieces appearing in the 83 editions of the Year Book from the first to the latest edition. The CD-ROM is also ideal as an office or library resource - it can be networked with no additional licensing costs.
