AVERAGE WEEKLY EARNINGS
- In the May quarter 2009, the average weekly total earnings for all employees rose to $1052, about a 1.5% increase in both seasonally adjusted and trend terms.
- In the 12 months to May 2009, the average weekly total earnings for all employees increased by almost 6% in both seasonally adjusted and trend terms. This represented slower growth than in the previous twelve months when total earnings rose by over 8% in seasonally adjusted and trend terms.
- The quarterly percentage rises in average weekly ordinary time earnings for full-time adults were similar (1.7% seasonally adjusted, 1.6% trend) while the annual increase for this group of employees was in excess of 7% for both data series.

- The Mining industry continued to have the highest full-time adult ordinary time earnings, with $2,243 per week in original data terms. This was followed by Electricity, gas and water supply ($1,625) and Property and business services ($1,534).

- Between the May quarter 2008 and May quarter 2009 industries with the largest increases in total earnings were Finance and insurance (15%) Construction (12%) and Retail trade (11%).
- Industries with falls in total earnings in the same 12 month period included Wholesale trade (-11%) and Cultural and recreational services (-4%).
