THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
The ABS recently released a discussion paper Measuring a Knowledge-based Economy and Society - An Australian Framework (cat. no. 1375.0). The paper offers a framework, and suggests indicators, to measure the degree to which Australia is a knowledge-based economy and society. The framework consists of five key areas: context; innovation and entrepreneurship; human capital; information and communications technology; and economic and social impacts. The discussion paper is available free on the ABS web site. Work has already begun on compiling relevant data, but feedback and comments on the framework are still welcome.
