WE ARE LIVING LONGER
Life expectancy at birth in NSW has reached 75.8 years for males, and 81.6 years for females. While life expectancy has increased for NSW overall, some regional differences in mortality are apparent. An analysis of mortality by Statistical Division shows Sydney with the lowest death rate and North Western with the highest in NSW. This analysis appears in the Deaths, Australia 1998 (Cat no. 3302.0). Further detail at the Statistical Local Area level will be published in Demography, NSW 1998 (Cat no. 3311.1) scheduled for release in January 2000.
