        Both the underlying cause of death as well as data on multiple causes of death are available for the first time. This information is contained in Causes of Death, Australia, 1997 (Cat no. 3303.0). Perinatal data are based on a different definition to past data. The publication also includes for the first time, a number of tables based on standardised death rates.
