Assault - Between 2001 and 2002, Tasmania recorded an increase in victims of assault with the rate per 100,000 persons rising from 739.3 to 769.4. In 2002, the Northern Region again recorded the highest rate of assault with 866.1 victims per 100,000 persons, followed by Mersey-Lyell with 762.1 and the Greater Hobart-Southern Region with 717.2.
Sexual assault - The rate of sexual assault victims per 100,000 persons in Tasmania increased from 43.7 in 2001 to 51.2 in 2002. In both years, the Greater Hobart-Southern Region recorded the lowest rate (39.2 in 2001 and 43.0 in 2002) and the Mersey-Lyell Region recorded the highest rate (53.4 in 2001 and 68.6 in 2002).
Robbery - The rate of robbery victims for Tasmania decreased from 40.5 to 29.0 per 100,000 persons between 2001 and 2002, due to a decrease in all regions. In 2001 and 2002, rates of robbery victimisation were highest in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region.
Unlawful entry with intent - Between 2001 and 2002, the rate of victims of unlawful entry with intent for Tasmania decreased from 1,962.1 per 100,000 persons to 1,567.5 per 100,000 persons, reflecting a decrease in all regions. In both years, the highest rate was recorded in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region.
Motor vehicle theft - Victims of motor vehicle theft state-wide decreased from a rate of 734.0 per 100,000 persons in 2001 to 527.6 per 100,000 persons in 2002. Of the three regions, the Greater Hobart-Southern Region recorded the highest victimisation rate for this crime in 2001 and 2002 (1,023.1 and 723.6 respectively).
Other theft - The rate of victims of other theft for Tasmania decreased from 2,830.5 per 100,000 persons in 2001 to 2,760.2 per 100,000 persons in 2002. The Greater Hobart-Southern Region and the Northern Region recorded decreases in the victim rates of this crime, whilst the Mersey-Lyell Region recorded an increase from 2,429.2 in 2001 to 2,743.0 in 2002.
