There is also interest in further understanding the dynamics involved in family or domestic relationships that may contribute to FDV for a victim or perpetrator, e.g. family breakdown, use of support networks or services, family stresses and transitions, and personal histories of mental illness, substance use and violence. Where these themes of interest overlap, there is added complexity in the analysis of family and domestic violence. Contextual factors may also contribute towards the formation of attitudes about subpopulations and the use of violence, as well as the attitudes held within particular groups.
