STAFF

The number of full-time equivalent staff employed at Acute and psychiatric hospitals in Australia during 2008-09 was 49,415, an increase of 5.8% over the 2006-07 cycle (46,718). Nursing staff (28,529) accounted for 58% of total staff, and averaged 1.2 per occupied bed in 2008-09, a drop of 0.2 since 2006-07. Salaried medical officers and other diagnostic professionals accounted for 6.7% of total staff, and Administrative and clerical staff 15%.
