STATISTICAL NOTES The data presented here have been drawn from the annual ABS Survey of Research and Experimental Development - Businesses for the particular industries covered by the ICT industry as defined below. ICT industry The ICT industry is defined as those industries involved in the production and distribution of ICT goods and services in Australia. The ICT industry groups presented in the table above consist of the following aggregations of classes of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) (cat. no. 1292.0): ICT manufacturing Class 2841, Computer and business machine manufacturing Class 2842, Telecommunication, broadcasting and transceiving equipment manufacturing Class 2849, Electronic equipment manufacturing Class 2852, Electric cable and wire manufacturing ICT wholesaling Class 4613, Computer wholesaling Class 4614, Business machine wholesaling n.e.c. Class 4615, Electrical and electronic equipment wholesaling n.e.c. Telecommunication services Class 7120, Telecommunication services Computer Services Class 7831, Data processing services Class 7832, Information storage and retrieval services Class 7833, Computer maintenance services Class 7834, Computer consultancy services Research fields (full name: Research Fields, Courses and Disciplines) Fields in which the R&D activity was performed. The Research Fields, Courses and Disciplines classification is primarily structured around disciplines or activities and describes what research is being performed. The classification is a component of the Australian Standard Research Classification (ASRC) which is the collective name for a set of three related classifications developed for use in the measurement and analysis of research and experimental development (R&D) undertaken in Australia. For the purposes of this indicator, the categories relating to ICT have been defined as a sub-classification of the 1998 edition of the ASRC.
