From 1998 to 2002, there was an increase of 10.4% in the number of deaths in Tasmania.
Between 1998 and 2002, the Northern Region recorded the largest increase in deaths, with 17.2%. The Mersey-Lyell Region followed with 9.0% and Greater Hobart-Southern Region with 7.3%.
