From 1991 Tasmania recorded successive years of negative net interstate migration until 2003. Since 2003 Tasmania has recorded more arrivals than departures with a net interstate migration in 2005 of 337.
In 2005-6, the largest number of interstate arrivals to Tasmania came from Queensland, 3,345, compared to 3,101 from Victoria and 2,997 from New South Wales. Queensland was the most popular destination for people leaving Tasmania for interstate (3,603 persons) followed by Victoria (3,553 persons) and New South Wales (2,239 persons).
