INDUSTRIES




INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this chapter is to present information about businesses that operate within the Sports and Physical Recreation Industries, as defined in the Australian Culture and Leisure Classifications (ACLC). Sports and physical recreation is Division 3 of the ACLC Industry Classification and consists of business units mainly engaged in the presentation or provision of sports and physical recreation and associated services. Also included in Division 3 are business units which are mainly engaged in the manufacture, wholesale or retail of sports and physical recreation goods.


Division 3 consists of four industry groups; Group 31 Horse and dog racing, Group 32 Sports and physical recreation venues, Group 33 Sports and physical recreation services, and Group 34 Sports and physical recreation goods manufacturing and sales. Each of these groups consists of a number of industry classes.


Information about businesses classified to Groups 31, 32 and 33 has been obtained from the 2000-01 Service Industries Survey. For Group 34, some information about retailers of sports and physical recreation goods (Class 343) has been obtained from the 1998-99 Retail Industry Survey. Information about manufacturers and wholesalers of sports and physical recreation goods is only available in combination with information about manufacturers and wholesalers of other leisure goods. This information (from the 2000-01 Manufacturing Industry Survey and 1998-99 Wholesale Industry Survey) is presented in Other leisure industries.
