It includes:

  • manufacturing robotics and mechatronics, other than their automotive applications;
  • flexible manufacturing systems;
  • computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture, also known as CAD/CAM;
  • precision engineering; and
  • packaging, storage and transportation.
This group has thirteen fields:

    091009 Microtechnology
    091010 Packaging, Storage and Transportation (excl. Food and Agricultural Products)
    091011 Precision Engineering
    091012 Textile Technology
    091099 Manufacturing Engineering not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Post-harvest packaging, transportation and storage of agricultural products are included in Division 07 Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.
    b) Automotive engineering and automotive mechatronics are included in Group 0902 Automotive Engineering.
    c) Membrane and separation technologies are included in Group 0904 Chemical Engineering.
    d) Non-manufacturing applications of robotics are included in Group 0906 Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
    e) Food packaging, preservation and safety are included in Group 0908 Food Sciences.
    f) Heat and mass transfer operations, fluidisation and fluid mechanics and turbulent flows are included in Group 0915 Interdisciplinary Engineering.
    g) Applications of biosensors to manufacturing are included in Group 1003 Industrial Biotechnology.
