INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT TIMELINESS Population Ageing in NSW, 2008 has been released on an irregular basis. The first issue titled Older People in New South Wales: A Profile(cat. no. 4108.1) was published in 1995, followed by Older People, New South Wales (cat. no. 4108.1) in 2000 and 2004. DADHC and ABS partner to produce this publication and is usually undertaken after the second release of Census data. The statistics contained in this publication were the most recent available at the time of its preparation. In some cases, the ABS web site and the web sites of other organisations, can provide more recent and/ or detailed statistics. ACCURACY The quality of data presented in Population Ageing in NSW, 2008 will vary based on the source of information. For example Census and administrative data will be more reliable than survey estimates and State data more reliable than LGA data. Before any data was included in this publication it was assessed to ensure it was fit and appropriate for analysis. ABS survey data is, when applicable, accompanied by annotations indicating the relative accuracy of the statistics. Other information relating to the accuracy or fitness-for-purpose of data (for both ABS and non-ABS data) can be found in the table footnotes/cell annotations. More detailed information on each collection or source can be found on the agency website or within the original publication, which are linked in the datacubes. COHERENCE The content of Population Ageing in NSW, 2008 was reviewed against the previous release of Older People, New South Wales. The recent release of the Towards 2030: Planning for our changing population report also had an influence on updating Population Ageing in NSW, 2008. The major changes associated with this publication are: Population Ageing in NSW, 2008 reflects on issues of importance to NSW, and no attempt has been made to compare NSW to other States and Territories within Australia. Considering NSW side by side with other States and Territories could be informative. However, this would confine the use of data sets that aren't available from other states/ territories. Content was also developed around relevant issues for NSW and aimed to inform the debate within NSW and not act as a comparison with other States and Territories. INTERPRETABILITY Population Ageing in NSW, 2008 contains a wide range of information on numerous topics.
