Great Lakes, great choice for the over 65's Almost one in three residents of the mid-north community of Great Lakes, New South Wales is over 65 years of age, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The Great Lakes Local Government Area is one of the highest concentrations of the aged population in Australia. Only Queenscliffe in Victoria and Victor Harbor on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula counted a higher population proportion aged 65 years and over. The above population data are just one feature of many economic, social and environmental statistical online profiles updated today. This includes more than 150 local government areas in New South Wales and over 2000 regions across Australia.
Regional information is available over a five year period up to 2010, so local communities can track changes over time in the characteristics of their areas. The Google Maps interface makes finding regions a cinch. To get started, just click on the ‘National Regional Profile’ link on the ABS website, www.abs.gov.au. Media Note:
