Local Census Collectors are ready to hit the streets!
With 20 days until Census Night on Tuesday 8th August, Collectors are finalising their training and are ready for the mammoth task ahead.
Collectors have been recruited from all regions of Australia to drop off and collect Census forms from every household the region.
They will start delivering from Friday 28th July and will come back to collect forms after Census Night on Tuesday 8th August.
Collectors are the vital link to the public in the Census of Population and Housing, according to manager of ACT and south east NSW Census operations Alan Masters.
"Census Collectors are the statistical foot soldiers in this national operation," said Alan.
"Our Collectors will soon be knocking on doors and are easily identifiable with their bright yellow bags and identity passes.
"They have been recruited from the communities we are counting, allowing us to engage with the public through locals they know.
"Each collector will visit between 200 and 500 homes, depending on how populated their collection district is and how far they have to travel.
"People should expect a knock on their door after Friday 28th July."
Under the Census and Statistics Act all Collectors are legally bound never to release identifiable personal information to any person or organisation outside the ABS.
