New motor vehicle sales showing decline: ABS The trend figures indicate that total new motor vehicle sales have declined slightly over the last four months with June 2002 figures falling by 0.7%. The main component of this decline is new passenger vehicle sales which have declined for the fifth consecutive month. Sales of new passenger vehicles fell 1.1% in June to record a fall of 4% since January 2002. Sales of other vehicles have remained steady over the last two months. Seasonally adjusted sales of total new motor vehicles fell by 4.4% in June 2002, with falls in passenger vehicles and other vehicles of 2.2% and 8.3% respectively. Of the States and Territories only South Australia, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory recorded rises.
