APRIL KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the April 2009 merchandise imports were $16,228m, a decrease of $1,086m (6%) on the revised March 2009 merchandise imports of $17,314m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods imports (debits) on a balance of payments basis decreased by $388m (2%) in seasonally adjusted terms from $17,657m in March 2009 to $17,269m in April 2009. Other goods fell $463m (35%) with non-monetary gold down $305m (32%), capital goods fell $47m (1%) and consumption goods fell $38m (1%). Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $160m (2%) with other merchandise goods up $151m.
