NOTES
ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION
This publication contains state and territory estimates of Gross domestic product (referred to as gross state product (GSP)) and its components, in current price and volume terms, for the years 1989-90 to 2016-17.
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
The estimates in this issue incorporate new and revised national estimates as published in the 2016-17 Australian System of National Accounts (cat. no. 5204.0). This incorporates historical revisions in the 2015-16 annual supply and use tables. These revisions, spanning the entire time series, are necessary in order to reflect changes in methods, concepts, classifications and data sources and to maintain consistent time series. These changes were flagged in the information paper Changes to the 2016-17 release of the Australian System of National Accounts (cat. no. 5204.0.55.012).
The national revisions impact on all states, although the extent varies between states. This is due to some data sources containing changes to state indicators while other revisions impact only the national estimate. Specific details on the revisions to the national estimates, and the range of improvements incorporated in the historical revisions are outlined in the Feature Article included in that publication.
This release of the Australian National Accounts: State Accounts (cat. no. 5220.0) incorporates further revisions to state series unrelated to the historical revisions. These include revisions to industry Gross Value Added (GVA) and National General Government Final Consumption Expenditure (GFCE) estimates. These revisions are due to updated state based source data as well as a changes to improve the method of apportioning national GVA and GFCE benchmarks to respective states.
