AUGUST KEY POINTS
Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for August 2016:
Cattle slaughter decreased by 3% in August 2016 compared with July 2016 and was down by 171,752 head or 23% year-on-year.
Comparing month-on-month, the number of calves slaughtered in August 2016 decreased marginally (down 1%) and decreased 15% year-on-year.
Sheep slaughter in August 2016 decreased by 14,163 head or 3% compared with July 2016 and was down 26% year-on-year.
In August 2016 lamb slaughter decreased by 37,651 head or 2% month-on-month. Compared with August 2015, slaughter decreased by 118,833 head or 6%.
Pig slaughtering continues to remain steady in August 2016 and increased by 21,759 head, or 5% year-on-year.
