JUNE KEY POINTS
IMPORT PRICE INDEX
- The Import Price Index increased by 0.1% in the June quarter 2007, following a -1.7% decrease in March quarter 2007. The increase this quarter was driven by price rises in petroleum and related products, medicinal products and inorganic chemicals. These increases were partly offset by decreased cost of office and automatic data processing machines, telecommunications equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles. The decreases were partially driven by the appreciation of the Australian dollar against most major currencies.
EXPORT PRICE INDEX
- The Export Price Index increased by 0.3% in the June quarter 2007, following no change in March quarter 2007. The increase this quarter was driven by price rises in metal ores and scrap metal, non-ferrous metals and petroleum and petroleum products. These increases were partly offset by decreases in prices received for coal (including coke and briquettes), gas (natural and manufactured) and meat and meat preparations. The decreases were partially driven by the appreciation of the Australian dollar against most major currencies.
