• Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during October 2011 (503,600 movements) increased 0.7% compared with September 2011 (500,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.1% in August 2011 and 0.9% in September 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 0.3% higher than in October 2010.
• Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (505,400 movements) recorded an increase of 4.9% compared with September 2011 (481,700 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.7% in August 2011 and a decrease of 3.9% in September 2011.
• Original estimates: There were 498,100 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in October 2011.

• Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during October 2011 (656,200 movements) decreased 0.6% compared with September 2011 (660,000 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.2% in August 2011 and a slight increase in September 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 8.6% higher than in October 2010.
• Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2011, short-term resident departures (654,500 movements) decreased by 1.3% compared with September 2011 (662,800 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in August 2011 and 0.4% in September 2011.
• Original estimates: There were 629,000 short-term resident departures from Australia during October 2011.
