JUNE KEY POINTS
HOUSING FINANCE FOR OWNER OCCUPATION
June 2006 COMPARED WITH May 2006:
- The total value of owner-occupied housing commitments excluding alterations and additions increased by 0.8% (seasonally adjusted), while the trend series rose 1.5%.
PERSONAL FINANCE
June 2006 COMPARED WITH May 2006:
- The seasonally adjusted series for the value of total personal finance commitments fell by 2.7%. This decrease was due to a fall in revolving credit commitments (down 8.3%) more than offsetting a rise in fixed lending commitments (up 4.7%).
- The trend series for the value of total personal finance commitments rose by 0.9% due to increases in both fixed lending (up 2.0%) and revolving credit commitments (up 0.2%).
COMMERCIAL FINANCE
June 2006 COMPARED WITH May 2006:
- The seasonally adjusted series for the value of total commercial finance commitments rose by 0.8%. This increase was due to a rise in revolving credit commitments (up 9.4%) more than offsetting a fall in fixed lending commitments (down 3.0%).
- The trend series for the value of total commercial finance commitments rose by 0.4%. Fixed lending commitments rose by 0.8%, while revolving credit decreased by 0.5%
LEASE FINANCE
June 2006 COMPARED WITH May 2006:
- Lease finance commitments (seasonally adjusted) decreased by 6.2%. The lease finance trend series fell by 2.4%.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
HOUSING FINANCE FOR OWNER OCCUPATION
The total value of owner occupied housing commitments excluding alterations and additions increased by 0.8% (seasonally adjusted) in June 2006 compared with May 2006, while the trend series rose 1.5%.

PERSONAL FINANCE
In seasonally adjusted terms, the value of total personal finance commitments fell by 2.7% in June 2006 compared with May 2006. This fall was due to a decrease in revolving credit commitments (down 8.3%) more than offsetting fixed lending commitments (up 4.7%).
In trend terms, the value of total personal finance commitments rose by 0.9% in June 2006. The trend series for fixed lending commitments increased by 2.0%, while revolving credit commitments rose 0.2%.
In original terms, fixed lending commitments increased by $134m (up 4.1%) in June 2006 compared with May 2006.
Movements in the original series contributing to this increase were:
- Refinancing, up $153m (19.0%), compared with an average May to June increase of 3.2% over the previous three years.
COMMERCIAL FINANCE
The seasonally adjusted series for the value of total commercial finance commitments rose by 0.8% in June 2006. The increase was due to the increases in revolving credit commitments (up 9.4%) more than offsetting a decrease in fixed lending commitments (down 3.0%)
The trend series for commercial finance commitments increased 0.4% in June 2006. An increase was recorded for fixed lending commitments (up 0.8%), while revolving credit commitments fell (down 0.5%).
The value of commitments for purchases of dwellings by individuals for rent or resale (seasonally adjusted) rose by 7.3% in June 2006, after an increase of 9.1% in May 2006. The trend series rose by 2.9%.
PURCHASE OF DWELLINGS BY INDIVIDUALS FOR RENT OR RESALE
LEASE FINANCE
The value of lease finance commitments (seasonally adjusted) decreased by 6.2%. The trend series for lease finance commitments fell by 2.4%.
