JANUARY KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the January 2008 merchandise imports were $16,937m, an increase of $1,251m (8%) on the revised December 2007 merchandise imports of $15,686m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods imports (debits) on a balance of payments basis increased by 6% in seasonally adjusted terms between December 2007 and January 2008. Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $582m (8%) with fuels and lubricants increasing by $372m (16%). Other goods rose $402m (83%) driven by non-monetary gold. Consumption goods rose $144m (3%) and capital goods fell $105m (3%).
