KEY POINTS
Livestock slaughtering and meat production quarterly trend movements for December 2017:
Cattle slaughter decreased 600 head compared with the previous quarter and increased by 72,800 head (or 4.2%) year on year.
The number of calves slaughtered increased by 5,800 head (or 5.6%) compared with the previous quarter and decreased 1,400 head (or 1.3%) year on year.
Sheep slaughter increased by 130,700 head (or 6.7%) compared with the previous quarter and increased by 487,000 head or (30.6%) year on year.
Lamb slaughter increased 78,000 head (or 1.4%) compared with the previous quarter and increased by 38,300 head (or 0.7%) year on year.
Pig slaughter increased by 12,400 head (or 0.9%) compared with the previous quarter and increased by 51,000 head (or 4.0%) year on year.
Chicken meat production decreased by 1,000 tonnes (or 0.3%) compared with the previous quarter and decreased by 4,500 tonnes (or 1.5%) year on year.
Receivals of wool decreased by 200 tonnes (or 0.2%) compared with the previous quarter and decreased by 29 tonnes year on year.
