Livestock slaughtering and meat production quarterly trend movements for June 2017:
Cattle slaughter increased 21,200 head or 1.2% compared with the March 2017 quarter but decreased by 51,500 head or 2.8% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
The number of calves slaughtered decreased by 13,100 head or 13.6% compared to the March 2017 quarter and was down 57,200 head or 40.8% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
Sheep slaughter increased by 32,600 head or 2.0% compared with the March 2017 quarter but decreased by 147,300 head or 8.1% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
Lamb slaughter decreased 56,000 head or 1.0% compared with the March 2017 quarter and decreased by 95,400 head or 1.7% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
Pig slaughter increased by 7,300 head or 0.6% compared with the March 2017 quarter and increased by 34,400 head or 2.7% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
Chicken meat production increased by 1,500 tonnes or 0.5% compared with the March 2017 quarter and increased by 2,500 tonnes or 0.8% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
Receivals of wool increased by 440 tonnes or 0.5% compared with the March 2017 quarter and increased by 6,000 tonnes or 6.6% when compared to the June 2016 quarter.
