ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

This publication contains estimates of the quantity of grain held in grain storage facilities operated by the major bulk grain handling companies and grain traders in Australia as at 31 May 2007.


KEY POINTS


During the month of May, total stocks of grain declined 15% to 8.5 million tonnes, with falls in all major grain categories contributing to the change.

Stocks of 'sorghum, other feed grain, and pulses' declined after a rise in the previous month. Wheat stocks fell by 1.1 million tonnes which was the largest absolute decrease in the reference month. Oats had the highest relative decrease, falling by 32% to 21,500 tonnes. Barley again experienced a significant decrease in stocks, with two thirds of this decrease in barley for feed.
