JANUARY KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during January 2014 (558,700 movements) increased 0.8% compared with December 2013 (554,400 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 1.0% in November and an increase of 0.9% in December 2013. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 8.7% higher than in January 2013.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During January 2014, short-term visitor arrivals (559,600 movements) recorded a decrease of 2.7% compared with December 2013 (574,900 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.7% in November and an increase of 7.1% in December 2013.
- Original estimates: There were 548,100 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in January 2014.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during January 2014 (752,900 movements) increased 0.5% compared with December 2013 (749,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% in both November and December 2013. The current trend estimate for departures is 8.1% higher than in January 2013.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During January 2014, short-term resident departures (751,800 movements) decreased 1.7% compared with December 2013 (765,000 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.1% in November and an increase of 4.3% in December 2013.
- Original estimates: There were 665,400 short-term resident departures from Australia during January 2014.
