Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for March 2017:
Cattle slaughters decreased by 1,200 head or 0.2% for March 2017 when compared with February 2017 and there was a year-on-year decrease of 60,300 head or 9.4%.
The number of calves slaughtered in March 2017 decreased by 969 or 3.2% month-on-month. Compared to this period last year, there was a decrease of 16,400 head or 35.5%.
Sheep slaughters in March 2017 increased by 6,500 head or 1.2% compared with February 2017 and was down 92,800 head or 14.4% year-on-year.
Lamb slaughters decreased by 32,000 head or 1.7% for March 2017. Compared with March 2016, slaughters decreased by 64,800 head or 3.3%.
Pig slaughters increased during the month, increasing by 819 head or 0.2% when compared to February 2017. Year-on-year pig slaughters increased by 11,300 head or by 2.7%.
