Trend estimates
- From February 2003 to February 2004 the number of public sector employees increased by 28,400 (1.9%) to 1,539,100.
- In the same period the number of employees increased in state government by 2.1%, in local government by 1.6% and in Commonwealth government by 1.0%.

This publication presents statistics of the number of wage and salary earners (employees) and their gross earnings. These statistics are obtained from the quarterly Survey of Employment and Earnings - Public Sector (SEE).
SEASONAL ADJUSTMENT
The annual review of seasonal adjustment factors for employment series shown in this publication has been completed. As a result, some previously published seasonally adjusted and trend estimates have been revised. See paragraphs 17 to 23 of the Explanatory Notes.
