MAY KEY POINTS
Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for May 2016
Cattle slaughter remained steady in May but fell by 126,000 head (or 16 percent) from May 2015.
The number of calves slaughtered rose by 3,500 (or 7 percent) from April 2016.
Sheep slaughter fell by 11,000 head (or 2 percent) from April 2016 and by 56,000 head (or 8 percent) from May 2015.
Lamb slaughter fell slightly after reaching a 5-year peak in April 2016.
Pig slaughter continued its longer term pattern of steady growth.
