Direct tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in volume terms, decreased by 0.4%, compared with real GDP growth of 2.5%.
Direct tourism gross value added at basic prices, in volume terms decreased by 0.5%, compared to gross value added for all industries which increased by 2.6%.
The tourism GDP implicit price deflator (IPD) (which reflects broad price pressures faced across the tourism "sector" by both tourism industries and visitors) rose by 3.8% compared to the CPI which increased by 2.7%.
Internal tourism consumption (total domestic and international consumption in Australia) in volume terms, decreased marginally by 0.2%. Of this figure, domestic tourism consumption fell 0.4%, while international tourism consumption grew marginally by 0.2%.
Of the 0.4% decrease in domestic tourism consumption in volume terms, tourism consumption by households fell by 0.5%, while business/government tourism consumption increased by 0.5%
Direct tourism gross value added per hour work (a measure of tourism labour productivity) fell marginally by 0.1% compared to growth for the whole of the economy of 1.5%.

GDP
Direct tourism GDP increased by 3.4% to $43,443m, compared with GDP growth of 4.1%
Tourism share of GDP decreased marginally from 2.8% to 2.7%
INDUSTRY GROSS VALUE ADDED
Direct tourism gross value added increased by 3.4% to $39,900m
TOURISM CONSUMPTION
Internal tourism consumption increased by 3.7% to $113,343m
Domestic tourism consumption increased by 3.5% to $86,168m
Tourism exports (international tourism consumption in Australia) increased by 4.1% to $27,176m
Tourism imports (outbound tourism consumption by Australian residents on outbound trips) increased by 3.6%% to $34,871m
TOURISM EMPLOYMENT
Tourism employed persons decreased by approximately 5,600 employees to 534,000 employed persons
Tourism share of total employment decreased marginally from 4.7% to 4.6%
Hours worked in tourism decreased by 0.4%, compared with an increase of 1.1% for the overall economy

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
The 2013-14 publication introduces chain volume estimates and price indexes for the tourism industry into the annual TSA release. These estimates were first introduced as experimental estimates in an information paper (ABS cat no. 5249.0.55.004) in July 2004.
