CDATA Online released!
The CDATA Online product was released on the ABS website on the 27th of October 2008.
CDATA Online is an online tool that combines information on Australian society from the 2006 Census, with web-based graphing and mapping capabilities. CDATA Online allows you to create your own tables of Census data on a range of different topics such as age, education, housing, income, transport, religion, ethnicity, occupation and more. This free online product allows you to create tables, maps and graphs of Census characteristics for all ABS geographic areas.
The product is designed to provide clients with a high degree of freedom in selecting and combining the geographical areas most suited to their needs. The tables, graphs and maps created in CDATA Online can be downloaded in a variety of formats.You can access CDATA Online as a Guest User or as a Registered User. Registration is free, and registered users of CDATA Online can save their custom geographies, data items and tables for use in future sessions.

Final 2006 DataPack released.
On the 28th of August 2008 the Estimated Resident Population Profile DataPack was released. A detailed explanation of the concept of ERP, as adopted by the ABS for official population estimates, is contained in Information Paper: Population Concepts, Australia, 2008 (cat. no. 3107.0.55.006) on the ABS website <www.abs.gov.au>.
This release completes the release of the standard suite of the seven 2006 DataPack products:
- Basic Community Profile
- Indigenous Profile
- Time Series Profile
- Place of Enumeration Profile
- Expanded Community Profile
- Working Community Profile
- Estimated Resident Population.
The 2006 DataPacks products are designed for several purposes:
- for clients to use with database or analysis systems (e.g. SQL, GIS and other mapping or tabulation software)
- for clients who require access to the 2006 Census Community Profile data and digital boundaries in bulk
- for licensed Secondary Providers who wish to produce a GIS products similar to CDATA 2001 – Full GIS.
Note: There is no software included in this product.
The price for each 2006 Census DataPack is $115 per profile. To order DataPacks please contact National Information and Referral Service (NIRS) on 1300 135 070.
TableBuilder is coming!
Now that CDATA Online has been released, we will continue the development of the TableBuilder product. We aim to release this product in 2009.
TableBuilder will allow users to construct their own tables via an interactive web interface with access to output variables as listed in the Census Dictionary.
Person, family and dwelling classifications will be available for users to select. The categories available for each classification are yet to be determined.
TableBuilder will be a fee-for-service product. The cost is currently under review. For further information on TableBuilder product, please see the TableBuilder Product Brief.
New prices for CDATA 2001 products.
The ABS will no longer sell the MapInfo 7.0 software that previously accompanied the CDATA 2001 product. Users will need to contact MapInfo (1800 648 899) and purchase the relevant MapInfo software.
The updated prices for the full suite of CDATA 2001 products as at 27/10/2008 are as follows (includes GST):
- CDATA 2001 – Full GIS: $330.00
- CDATA 2001 – Quickbuild: $330.00
- CDATA 2001 – Add-On Datapacks: $165
- CDATA 2001 – SEIFA Add-On DataPack: $165
Please note: As the life-cycle of the CDATA 2001 products has now ceased, support in 2009 for these products will diminish. The ABS will not be conducting software compliance testing to ensure that CDATA 2001 works with later versions of MapInfo version 7.0. Users will need contact MapInfo directly.
