ABOUT THIS RELEASE
The 1997 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing of Adults Second Revised CURF contains data on 10641 persons. Information contained in each record will include: geographical information; household type; age; sex; marital status; birthplace; year of arrival in Australia; labour force characteristics; education characteristics; general measures of mental health and wellbeing; physical conditions; disability; health service utilisation and perceived need for help. Detailed information is provided on specific symptoms and behaviours required to enable the diagnosis of neurasthenia; anxiety disorders; depressive disorders; dysthymic disorders; manic and bipolar affective disorders; obsessive - compulsive disorder; post - traumatic stress disorder; and substance or alcohol dependence or harmful use according to the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI). Information is provided on organic mental disorders and from screening questions for psychosis and personality disorders. CIDI mental disorder diagnostic information is provided in accordance with both the International Classification of Diseases - 10th revision and Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - fourth edition classifications. An additional set of full survey weights is provided to be used in conjunction with the replicate weights to calculate standard errors.
